Hey all

I made a formal complaint to CRC about this. I emailed them after I posted on their facebook and they called me today. They are still quoting that they do not know where the fraud has occurred and its only a small % of their customers but want to speak to their customers to put their minds at rest. Essentially its still a holding approach until their research the issue and make an official statement. In my experience their will be a few very specific points in which the card details were hacked from CRC so I am shocked that they dont know whats happened. They have told me they will keep me updated.

To User's point about libel, I pointed out that to complete most banks fraud process to claim monies back you need to state if you know where the fraud was committed. I told CRC that at the point I completed my form I did not know about the CRC issue but i was now legally obliged to inform my bank. There response was they are still researching the fraud and cannot tell if it happened within or outside CRC. I also criticised their abysmal approach to customer service on this issue.

I would suggest all affected CRC customers make contact with them so they really realize the scale of this . Details below

My bank has written to me to say my card has been suspended and a new one is being issued. Only purchase in last 6 weeks was with CRC. Nothing else on bills.

I expect that either bank has caught some dodgy transactions, or due to CRC's problems has decided to change cards of any customer who used CRC

I'm not convinced that CRC holds details at all... most go direct via the payment processors...

The only puchase I've made in the last 6 weeks too was to CRC, touch wood there seems to be no problem with my account.

Looks like CRC are not the only ones. I've just had an E-Mail from play.com informing me of a security breach, the message reads

We are emailing all our customers to let you know that a company that handles part of our marketing communications has had a security breach. Unfortunately this has meant that some customer names and email addresses may have been compromised.

We take privacy and security very seriously and ensure all sensitive customer data is protected. Please be assured this issue has occurred outside of Play.com and no other personal customer information has been involved.

Please be assured we have taken every step to ensure this doesn’t happen again and accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused some of you.

Fortunately I haven't used them for several months, I normally use them to download music, but my son and his partner have used the site in the last couple of weeks, no problems with their bank accounts.

Just had this email too and I am assuming it is the reason I have had some emails from *insert female name here
* who is very interested in my profile and is looking to meet a good man and has attached a picture of herself and would be very interested in receiving a picture of me so we could communicate!!!! I haven't dared open the jpeg attachment on any of these emails but as they have only started arriving in the last week or two it does seem to be a bit of a coincidence.

Any generic spam like this usually goes to the spam folder and does not contain a specific address in the destination field but these have my email address so come into the in folder

You may be right, and I admit that I don't know how these systems work, but how did CRC refund me under a warranty claim direct back to my card without me giving them the details again if they don't store the card details? Can they refund without card details in some way?

Two things-

1. I am amazed that so many of you are responding to calls and emails from your banks. Are these not scams too? I have had scam calls and get at least one email per week supposidly from some bank or other (probably wanting me to confirm my pin or whatever). Only deal with your bank via the bank itself. Do not respond to them contacting you.

2. It is not your money that has gone, it is the banks. You entrust them to look after it and they leave the door open. So as long as you used the card properly you should just be able to say £x has been taken from my account by someone other than me, put £x back in my account and sort out your security.

Banks play the numbers and weigh up the cost of more security against the degree of loss and settle on the most cost effective point that involves some degree of loss of their money via your account.
