Just relented and the heating is now on....when hubby gets up after his night shift I'll get him to programme the timer....
'cos I is a laydee and these things baffle me....

So have I.
Just switched it on for an hour. It's been teeming down with rain all day now and has really lowered the temperature.

The central heating went on here today. There was lots of fussing about when I got home from work about whether it was actually working - we've one of those systems with a wireless thermostat that's given problems in the past - but it turned out it had been set to 14°...

My wife's forced me to put the heating on today too. I suggested a cardigan but the look said it all!

I was trying to hold out until November

Old house + drafts = cold.

Ours kicks in when it is cold enough. However, we have just had a log burner installed in the front room (coldest room in the house) so hopefully when the plaster is dry and we have redecorated it will be super toasty in there. Thermostat is going to be moved to a different room, it's one of those wireless ones, otherwise I can see one room being very warm and the rest of the house never being heated...

He'd changed the pump within 25 minutes, and with a swish of his Zorro-like cloak, was gone! All I have to do now is wait for the bill!! After which I'll need a lie-down. Gosh, life is exciting sometimes!
Pump if a standard household heating one, can be bought from £50.00.

Not a standard one, apparently, but thanks.
I spent my childhood in a draughty house with a massive coal fire in the living room and a massive range cooker which was permanently burning awy in the kitchen. The rest of the house was almost never heated, so you had the choice of roasting or freezing. We used to have to run to the toilet.
Was the cooking that bad then?

My pal Dr Evil has not put the heating on or had any hot water for over 20 years. If it drops much below freezing he blasts a hairdryer into the bed for 10 seconds before getting in. Which makes everyone else look like a gigantic wuss. Here is an unrelated picture of Dr Evil, pictured gazing over the Bristol Channel near St Donats, with @dellzeqq.

what you forget to mention is that he lives in a peculiarly favoured part of the world. The climate of Mumbles is so clement, so very equable that Catherine Zeta-Jones spends her winters there. Who needs Barbados?

Getting chilly now!
Heating has been forbidden until at least November, got to order a couple of tons of wood to keep us going til then!

This was in the front room when I got home the other day about 3pm. The rest of the house is usually colder.
