Which Garmin is it equivalent to? My 800 does ok at the mo, but could be bigger perhaps
I dunno, never used either. At a push I'd say the 820, given it's size, it has exactly the same features as the regular elemnt, which I think targets the 1000. There's nothing you can't do on one that you can do on the other as far as I can tell.

Wahoo and Apple teamed up along with team sky to produce the Elemnt. Apple have done much of the software, from what I understand. That is why it is immediately so much better than the Garmin. I could right an essay on all the reasons Wahoo blow garmins out of the water, but I'm in the middle of DIY plaster boarding. The wi-fi uploads and customisation with your phone features are good and I'm planning on getting a Kickr turbo so it will instantly link with that. Also dragging and dropping ride with gps routes straight in is simple. The LED lights will help push me, the list goes on....

Conversly I could right an essay on the many reasons why I kept my Garmin and sold my Wahoo.

Odd you say the you believe Apple have something to do with the software as I was advised by Wahoo to install software more commonly used for android devices to access the Elemnt as a mass storage device on my Macbook.

EDIT: The Wahoo FAQ on the connection matter can be found here.

Why is the Bolt better? I might get one to replace the Garmin at some point, but I'd want the bigger screen etc for mapping
The elemnt and bolt are virtually the same unit bolt is smaller and yes more aero and has a better battery life but if you want a larger screen the elemnt is better never had a Garmin so can't compare sizes . I went for the bolt as I mainly wanted a workout screen and not maps . The ease of interface between my smart phone and the bolt is brilliant no need for any thing like Garmin connect . Bolt has built in WiFi and just syncs with my broadband at home

I love the look of the element because of its extra LED's but it's just too big even though I don't care about the aero part.

I've been out today and followed a loaded route on the bolt on the map screen and although it's a small screen I managed perfectly fine . I don't think the aero makes much difference at my level

I wish it had been. I'm sure the Wahoo will get there as they are more proactive in software updates but at this time it isn't a good fit for how I use my devices and what I want them to do.

It's a tough choice though, I can get the bolt now with the extras or I can get the Element, maybe it's not too big. >_<

Personally I'd wait for the one you want or you may regret the purchase . I went for the bundle and having never had a heart rate monitor before I am finding it very interesting not really bothered about cadence but as it came in the bundle I using that aswell
