Currently I am running Campagnolo Mirage 8 speed and have 42 / 52 chainrings and a 13 - 24 cassette which are well worn and time for replacement.

Ideally I would like one more gear for hills and wonder whether it would be better to keep the chainrings the same size and get a 13 - 26 cassette or keep with the same size cassette and get a 39 or 40 inside chainring ?

If I drop 3 teeth on the front chainring is this likely to cause an issues with the front mech or is there anything else obvious that I have missed that I need to be aware of ?

Many thanks

I imagine you would have to check what the max difference of teeth that the front mech can cope with.

Just checked min teeth for front mech is 39

A 26 instead of a 24 won't make that much of a difference, best bet would be to go for a 39 inner chainring.

Hope this helps.
