Hello, new Brompton owner here. Wondering if there are any cheap bags that attach to the clip above the wheel at the front? Seen a few links on here but they are now expired. Not wanting something massive, just something that will fit wallet, phone and a couple of bottles of beer etc.

Cheers

If no luck, consider modifying an existing bag to use the Brompton bag frame

if you already have a luggage block on your Brompton, you can probably find the matching part that fits to any bag on ebay. You would need to attach it to a stiffener such as a piece of hardboard inside the bag, then find yourself an inexpensive (preferably waterproof) bag to hold your stuff. Just because you have a Brompton, you don't have to spend a fortune on accessories, unless you want to.

Brompton and Cheap aren't often found in the same sentence.

I have what I think they branded the brompton Shoulder bag, which was smaller and neater than the S bag - a heavy duty canvas messenger style bag. I dont use the brommie much now but do use the bag a lot.

Ebays probably worth a look for originals and copies.

I'd rather look for the intended purpose first than asking for cheap as the first priority. What does a cheap solution help if it is not fit for purpose?
Also you could ask yourself: If you consider a genuine Brompton bag expensive and another bag cheap - what distinguishes the two apart from the price?

There used to be a small Ortlieb pouch that sat on the front. About the size of the Brompton battery bag.

They were never what you'd call cheap though... And as far as I can tell they're not made any more.

I did once think about getting one, but the price put me off and i was annoyed that it wasn't QUITE the same green as my bike.

It is possible to just buy the frame on its own and pretty much attach any bag to it. But the frame on its own is about £30.

There is the Metro bag (which is a saddle/bar bag) if it didn't have to be on your luggage block.

I'm here for a good time not a long time might be what distinguishes the two apart from the price...

TBH it won't get much use, maybe 5 times a year, so didn't want to spend £170 for example on one. Thought they might be a £50 alternative out there that would do the job.

Might end up with Brompton Borough Basket as it will do the job and is only £75.

There is an O bag and a mini-O and it seems the Mini versions are going for more than the full size ones.

I can only assume that people didn't find them useful as there aren't even any clones out there.

Understandable.

On the various Asian marketplaces like aliexpress there are a lot - no idea if they are good or a waste of money. Possibly there are examples for both.

That's a good alternative, especially when thinking about your "couples of beer". Other than that you can buy a used bag and also the Carradice bags for the Brompton are very good value for the money even given that you still need to buy the frame for the bag seperately.

Another alternative would be a Carradice saddle bag - cheaper, sufficient in size and can also be used on other bikes than the Brompton:

As a chap who usually likes to take the kitchen sink with me, even I could be tempted by that bag for the price.
