Cheap shoes

A little dog tried to dive under my front wheel. I braked, but didn't twist to unclip, just pulled. Cheap shoes meant the cleat plate detached and was left in the pedal. Still, at least I didn't fall over

I have the tension on my hybrid pedals set very low, as cycling on trails & tracks dogs & pedestrians can be 'unpredictable' & I've often pulled feet off pedals without twisting, but luckily not had that happen with my shoes. I normally ride in specialized shoes (good fit for me) so would expect reasonable quality, but i've just switched to some Carnac shoes on my road bike which were cheap, but supposedly RRP £145

Bought some new shoes today at Halfords http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_892709_langId_-1_categoryId_228873 I have increased the float on the clips so putting a foot down in an emergency shoul be easier

Don't ever buy cheap. Save up a little longer and buy good.
