Decathlon have done various bikes around the £100 price point. None of them are made of cheese. Why can't the likes of Tesco and Sportsdirect do the same. A good British or EU minimum standard might be a good idea. Using metal instead of plastic brakes and decent bearings isn't going to change the price by much.
Was going to say the same.
The Vitamin bike they used to do was the ideal inexpensive bike - singlespeed and rigid frame but above all else fit for purpose. It was much lighter than a BSO dual suspension but beginners get attracted by these bikes having gears and suspension but when the components are so badly designed and unreliable having these things are a bigger hinderence to riding enjoyment than aid.
