Chemistry HMW help please?

doing some chemistry homework and just confused a tad bit!
it said copper+sulfuric acid=copper sulfate+hydrogen
and it also said that
hydrochloric acid makes chlorides
sulfuric acid makes sulfates
nitric acid makes nitrates

so does lithium+sulfuric acid=lithium sulfate+hydrogen
and potassium+hydrochloric acid=potassium chloride+hydrogen?

many more questions from that sheet i can give you if you want!
any help greatly appreciated

Yes... both sides of the equation should balance... have you not got into valency yet so that you can see how the oxygen combines... I enjoyed that.... it's really good because it's logical...

erm, potassium + hydrochloric acid -> potassium chloride + hydrogen.

2K + 2HCl -> 2KCl + H2

I wouldn't recommend mixing any acid with either potassium or lithium metals as from what I remember its bad enough mixing them with water

don't worry i have either mixed them my self or at least seen them mixed with water and i know what happens but this is all just theoretical based theory work

The maths is the key, the number of positives, negatives and letters have to add up

It can help if you break each one down as then only plus and minus groups can join

Inorganic chem is fun because there is some logic in it.Most reactions with acid means you combine the non metallic elements with the the other reactant.It is usually a single or double displacement reaction,take the second second element from a compound and replace it with the second compound's and such.
And no balancing means no marks

I remember a couple of stinky chemicals from my inorganic chemistry lessons over 40 years ago, for example Sulphure Dioxide and Hydrogen Sulphide, but when I started studying organic chemistry for A-level, I really learned what stinky chemicals were all about!

Afraid I can't help, Ed. I only did 2 years of chemistry, and I was always the one kid in the class who mixed the things they were told not to mix...... I'm sure my teacher always thought i was doing it deliberately. After one particularly fizzy and unwanted side effect of my wayward application of science, we agreed I should concentrate on the arts.

@young Ed H2SO4 and HCl are aqueous, right? So you need to think about what happens when you add Li and K to water...

@Nihal Lots of people get hung up on organic nomenclature, but it's really not that interesting or important. As long as you can recognise a few functional groups then don't worry about it. Organic chemistry on the other hand is both interesting and important.
