I believe there were a few famous people , including Picasso and Dali, whose signatures were more valuable than the cheque amounts, especially when they drew a sketch on the back of the cheques . The shop/restaurant owners never cashed the cheques and held onto the cheques as works of art. Thus the famous person eat at restaurants for "free"!

I have a friend who pays with cheques for all sorts. He does have credit and debit cards but still clings onto the faff that are cheques.
Mind you he also takes and keeps sachets of coffee and sugar, also napkins from various places.
He never uses them, they just clutter up his place.🫩
