Almost a third of UK primary pupils think cheese is made from plants and a quarter think fish fingers come from chicken or pigs, suggests a survey.

Nearly one in 10 secondary pupils thinks tomatoes grow under ground, according to the poll for the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF).

By the way, you should post this in 'the other thread' because it is perhaps more important and beneficial to educate people about where their food comes from it is to try and force people to be Vegan/Vegatarian just for the sake of it.

We have several allotments. Every year when they were young, the twins help dig/pick/collect everything we needed to cook a meal. This would be then prepared and cooked on a Primus stove with them helping.

This would only happen of course once they had stripped all the peas and eaten the lot.

A friend's daughter thought chicken came from Iceland and didn't realise that chickens and chicken were the alive and dead versions of the same. She had no idea about farming or anything. I was really shocked, especially when my friend said "oh they don't teach that sort of stuff in school now" and was so calm about it.
Friend ex husband was so incensed about the fact that kiddo had no idea about the origins of food he told her. Kiddo is now a vegetarian.

Dear lord, how is that possible?

It's possible because children are increasingly not allowed to get out and get dirty in the natural environment (or what's left of it in urban areas). They're chauffered everywhere in overlarge cars, and not allowed to get themselves hurt (and learn from it).

It's pretty depressing, and I really feel sorry for this generation.
