Could not sleep so turned on the telly to BBC news just as they were lowering the mines expert into the shaft.

Took about twenty minutes to get there to the trapped miners. It's great and I didn't expect camera pictures from down there.

I was thinking how I would feel if I was stuck there and the pipe the mine expert was lowered down into via the cage didn't look that big.

The first one's out and 2nd is just going up

I have just been watching the live feed via The Guardian...absolutely dedicated engineering effort, and a totally absorbing piece of humanity.
So much employment debris, political capital, blame and so forth 'bubbling under' - let alone films, stories etc...I hope all the miners do well from this testing event. Spare a thought for all the thousands of others throughout the globe who risk this sort of thing eh.
Fantastic.

Why didn't they make the miners mine themselves out? All they've done is party for the last two months! Tsk.

I think it is great that we have positive happy news story to wake up to, rather than the usual doom and gloom about the economy and terrorism.

As has been said, what a joyfull start to a grey morning, watching the live feed with Misty over breakfast.

(I did like the suggestion a friend made on Facebook that the miners should be greeted by everyone dressed as in Planet Of The Apes!)

The thought of being trapped underground both horrifies and fascinates me... I can't think what those guys must have been through in their first 17 days before contact was made... so good to see them coming out! Hope all goes well for all of them from now on.

Just been watching on the news .For me these guys are so brave .After watching how they are coming out .in that small tube/cage .In a narrow pipe .That to me would be so frightening.I hate confined spaces .

And after 66+ days to be on your own for the first time ..Wow .

Well done lads .

I may have misheard but I'm sure one of the news reports said they were bringing the miners who suffer from claustrophobia out last.... what?!?
...how could someone with claustrophobia become a miner in the first place? ...and how on earth could someone who does, cope with the 15 minute journey up to the surface?

It's better than the alternative though...

Fantastic news!

They just had a drilling expert on the beeb, talking about how a feat of drilling like this (so far, keeping direction etc) hadn't been done before. He referred to it as "ground-breaking".
