What do you think Planet X and loads of other brands frames are...

Planet X and many other brands essentially buy open mold frames (generic carbon frames) paint and livery them up and sell them as their own. In recent years they seem to have moved on to adding some design influence, but for many years they were generic frames, their TT frame the Planet X Stealth could be bought branded up from many many other sources. AFAIK the Excocet is also available from many manufacturers.

Many of the smaller brands are doing the same thing, they don't have the cash and knowhow to conduct the R&D so they just buy something that already exists and sell it under their own brand.

A mate of mine that Rob3rt knows came second in the national 12 hour tt on an unbranded Chinese carbon frame. This year he was on a well known branded bike and didn't go as fast. Probably conditions but using an unbranded frame didn't do him any harm.

Ryan Mullen came 2nd in the National 10 this year with 17:42 on generic Chinese frame too. That said MAYBE it cost him the win, hah!

I wouldn't risk it (the unknown origin of the frame and being seen on something that looked like that)

That said, it's your money so...

Why is it in a field?

Personally I'd only buy a branded frame for the peace of mind you get from the warranty. I can't see you getting a replacement frame or your money back if things go wrong with it from a Chinese eBay seller.
I had a crack in my Ritte frame which was replaced no problem with the next years model.

P.s That frame in the O.P is well fugly.
