Possible N+1

The Fragrant MrsP and I are cycling to Paris in September along the Avenue Verte and I’m considering the matter of buying a new bike for the journey and others yet to come.

The Cinelli has caught my eye , about 750 quid from Spa.

And I’m also rather taken by this Trek 520 about 1100 quid but if I shop around I’ll probably get it under grand.

Or what else under a grand?

I don't have that particular Cinelli but I'm a big fan having bought one from Spa a few years ago. Great fun to ride and I love the thumb shifters.

Why not get one of Spa's own tourer / Audax bikes. With the two listed, there will be comprises in the drivetrain and wheels.

Spa's own bikes have handbuilt wheels and durable (if unsexy) components.

They do titanium and steel versions. Think the latter are closer to £1000.
