The Ford Anglia 105 E. There were two versions, the 998cc, and the 1200 deluxe. I had the latter in duck egg green. Wonderful five bearing engine that was almost indestructable.

yes the engines (and the cars) are great, and apparently the 997cc (im sure this is right, that it was technically a 996.6cc) engine is apparently able to produce little over 110 bhp in race spec, but without blower/turbo/nitro etc!!- thats as good as a mini's 998!! (i refuse to admit it could be any better)

Citroen 2CV. I had five or six over the years, including the Acadiane and Dyane versions.

never did like them, but knew someone who had one, was surprisingly nippy for a 650cc! - and he never ever locked it!- he said that if a thief could work out how the gears worked, and doesnt mind looking like a tw*t, then he deserved it..

the metro is the worst car ever!!! - it was built to replace the mini, but that way outlived the metro- cause it was so sh*te.... (im a bit of a mini man if you havent guessed) - and i only count the original mini, as after all, its the only one anyway!!!

forgot to add the magic letters: 6R4 to the end
that change any opinions on the metro? ;)

That's the bored out version with Visa barrels and pistons. The standard 2CV is a whopping 602cc. But you're right, they're surprisingly quick for such a tiny engine. Great fun too, and they go nearly anywhere - I used to do loads of green laning in mine.

I'm in the midst of a 2CV restoration project. Chassis had rotted, so found a good original rolling chassis, stripped it, had it shot blasted and galvanised. Now rebuilding/replacing the suspension/steering. Body shell is due back from the restoration shop next week - new floor, sills etc plus lots and lots of welding - then off to be repainted.
Won't get finished this summer, unfortunately

The Metro 6R4 was a beast and had stood the test of time..they're still used competetively now.

Minis...they dont really fit in this post ..they are a classic in every sense.

I've had a few...good uns and terrible ones.
Best was a 1963 Countryman Estate, wooden trim on the sides...but it had 12inch wheels and a 1300 engine. Christ, it used to go like stink.
The guy who sold it me had spent a fortune on it, and he was unwittingly ahead of his time....he'd painted all the chrome and wood matt black, and the paint job was a very mellow yellow. It looked fantastic.
Several years later, chrome dissappeared and matt black trim was everywhere.
I killed it... Drove it at full throttle everywhere.

First mini was a 1959 850 saloon...lasted well considering its age.
Last one was an 850 van, converted to take seats in the back....it was crap .

You'd like this bloke. He virually lives at the Nurburgring and his Ring-Mini is seriously fast. I believ he's got a Civic Type R motor mounted in the back of one of them. Very, very fast.
