Have my first cycling battle scars.
Sitting at lights, right foot locked into peddle, left foot on floor. Lights go green but before I can move, the van just to my left and behind me a bit guns it, and the wing mirror hits my elbow, pushing me to the right, of course my right foot is still clipped, so I just fall right, bugger all I could do.
No camera so no capture, but I have now ordered a camera.
Never found him, but no damage to bike, only cuts on knee and elbow.
Tossers.

Glad you are OK and that the bike is OK. Some van drivers are great, some are outright pillocks. It seems you met one of the latter types.

Report to the police and ask if there is CCTV there. Hit and run should take seriously, although I guess it's possible he was unaware it had even happened if you weren't moving

Get your cuts cleaned at your GP surgery or the hospital, roads are dirty

Heal fast

Just chalk it up as your first clipless moment, now that's been and gone, onwards and upwards, rather than sideways and downwards!

I got a camera partly because it can and does in many cases capture the events, but I am a techy person, geek so of course I am going to buy a camera. note I got a cheap camera, not a go pro, and helmet cam would possibly have capture the plate because I did look at the van as I was on the ground, naturally, but I did not pay any attention to the plate, a camera may have done that for me.

You sound like you are against the use of cameras?

I just haven't had cause to need one (although I was knocked off last year), I have no interest in such technology and they seem to turn some cyclists into utter tossers  I also don't want anything attached to my helmet which may cause me injury and my handlebars are too narrow and cluttered as it is for mounting one there

I also don't wish to review and relive incidents, I don't see the benefit, especially of a cheap camera and poor quality images

If you want one, use one...just please don't post tedious links to YouTube videos of non events

Given youse sequential say you weren't injured, I can't imagine there would have been any value in having footage and I very much doubt the police would have been interested. As I said, I doubt the van driver would have even known what happened. It's best not to be inside them at lights if avoidable, nor trucks, lorries, buses

im fine, and I get what your saying, but I am a techy and I work in security, cameras and technology, so at some point Ill be testing a live feed camera over 4G on my bike as well, just because I can, no other reason.

I wont post any stupid utube videos, promise.

Where were you positioned in your lane? Were you in the middle of the lane or over to the left?

to be fair, the lst time I cycled I was 12 and in the scottish borders, did not pay any attention to the road and never had a mishap, crashed into a few gates that I thought would be open but turned out not to be, made the mistake of tying my brothers and my bikes together and went down a hill (lots of cuts and crying all round then).

So, at that particular junction, there are 2 lanes, left lane for left and right for right, I was in the right lane as I was going right, and instead of being on the left of the right lane I opted to be on the right of the right lane, mainly because to the right there was an island with fence for people to cross the roads, so it seems safer than being in the middle of both lanes.

It makes logical sense that when cycling on a 2 lane road, and in the left lane I would keep to the far left, but I would have assumed that if cycling on the right lane I would not cycle to the left of that road as that would place me in the middle of the road, so assume I would cycle to the far right of that lane?
