Clothing Choices for the Middle Aged

My thread title is gender neutral, I was commenting on my clothing and a male friends, but surely the same predicament exists for females?
I may be badly dressed, but I ain't no misogynist!

No predicament here: as a youngster I never had money, was given 2 pair of denims and a few tops at change of season: was broughjt up abroad, we still put "winter clothing" away for the winter.
Moved here, started to work 24/7, wearing a uniform.
Days off, usual casual stuff.
Discovered cycling in my late 40's, great, can now wear all the bright colours unsuitable for my age

I've managed to steal all my mum's photographs of the horrendous clothes she dressed me in when growing up in the 1970s!

I only do 'cycling' clothing or 'Devon casual'.
When I retired, all of my 'works' clothing either went into the bin or to the charity shops, the following day.
Got a suit, but it only gets worn at weddings and funerals.

There is nothing that gives the illusion of youth more than a good physique, it's not all about clothes. If you have a regular middle aged bod, yet dress "young", you'll look odd, there is no getting away from that. I work out, avoid harsh colours and logos, er that's about it.

I have a pal, (same age 54) who's entire clothing (& life) you could fit in bin liner, yet he always looks like a million dollars, I think it's because he went to art school......

Sadly these days I'm the man from M&S. The 18yo me would have died laughing at that fact!
