That’s a whole new level of thick, or someone Deliberately trying to show how ‘hard’ they were. He needs a slap either way.

He was escorted off the motorway by Police then went back on! Probably comes from a country where you can cycle on motorways.

'... strayed onto the M58 motorway in Lancashire due to a sat-nav error ...'

It's somewhat disappointing that both the journalist and the police are implicitly endorsing the cause of this as 'sat-nav error'. It's not: it's incompetence and/or stupidity and/or ignorance of road rules and this idiot should not be even slightly allowed to attribute it to a piece of technology.

 Good job he didn't cycle to lands end otherwise he'd end up in the water.

Its all well following a sat-nav but, at what point do you fail to trust your own eyes and brain! I mean not even riding on the hard shoulder but, rather lane 1 :stop:

Shame he was not riding a custom built billion watt e-bike, he could have cranked it upto 70mph no sweat :bicycle:

He claims a sat nav error  I've strayed on to dual carriageways following a sat nav and potentially could have on to a motorway but the latter (motorway entrances) are pretty obvious and I've turned around. Even with the near zero traffic of a few weeks ago (steadily increasing now ), with the crazy speeds and drivers not expecting bike why would anybody in their right mind make a decision to cycle on a motorway

If it's the island I'm thinking of, I've done exactly the same. The evening 10's on the Rainford bypass turn at skelmersdale Island. It is a massive 5 exit island and both the Rainford bypass and the motorway are big dual carriage way roads and quite similar. I went round the turn and lost count of the exits and took the one before I should have done.

Fortunately I realised what I had done at the end of the slip road. Got off and walked back. So was a DNF that night.

Was a real shame. That course used to be my regular course in the 60's, so apart from the turn, I knew the course very well. It is the course that I did my PB on. But in those days, it was a tiny island and the motorway hadn't been built. And I was on a visit, up from Kent and hadn't ridden the current course for a long time. So that's my excuse.

No excuse for anybody, but I can understand how it happens.

You can't have used a motorway for a few years as those restriction signs have been discontinued!

Just a google image, before the lockdown (god, I hate that stupid American term) I was forced to use the A1(M) every week day and yes the signs have been abbreviated but its still pretty obvious (especially after the 5th blue sign) you are approaching a motorway. So my post still stands
