Some years ago me & Mrs Dave were driving home through France.....half way up the west coast.
We stopped off at a place called Pornice. During the evening we met a 'young' guy who told us he had visited England once....for a week while at university. He stayed near Manchester and recalled meeting a lad called Mark H********.
Gobsmacked.... the lad was now son in law.

Stood in Kos airport one day returning from holiday. It was rammed, delays due to fog so everyone was sitting, laying, milling around in endless queues. I idly scanned a queue across the floor....and there stood our friends daughters boyfriend.

A couple twin related ones...

My dad wa s of two identical twins, both served in the RAF. A few times dad (John) would be approached by a stranger..
.'helllooooo, Pete, what are you doing here  ?' (One occasion was in Rhodesia)...
They occasioanlly took some convincing he wasn't Pete...same used to happen to Pete.

Dad once bounded up the steps of a bank in Lincoln...to be confronted by his twin brother coming down the steps. Neither knew the other was in the same town.

Brought up on Merseyside and my first club was there. One of my club mates was Phil.

Roll the clock on 40 years and I am now with the Gravesend CC in Kent and one of my club mates here was Scottish, but had lived down here for years. On one ride, we got talking about the old times and he asked if I know this particular rider from Merseyside called Phil, It was the same person and he had shared a University Lab with Phil at Aberdeen University in the late 60's/early 70's. !!!!!!!!!!!

In preparation for taking my daughter up to her new digs in Sheffield, I got onto Airbnb to book a room. My daughter asked me whereabouts in Sheffield it was - I said I hadn't a clue. She asked what street it was in - turned out to be the road her digs were in! She asked me what number. I told her. It was the house next door.

I went on a course in Kingston-upon-Thames and thought I recognised the instructor. He turned out to be a regular at my girlfriend's local in Birmingham. He knew her and her twin sister!

I rang my mum from a callbox in Manchester but got a crossed line. I had a very confusing chat with a young woman who was expecting a call from her boyfriend, Colin. I hung up and redialled, got my mum that time and found that she had just been chatting to the other Colin!

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
We were on holiday in France and visited a chateau with a kids theme park, bumping into my brother-in-law with his family.

Now we did know they would be in France, but not where or when. Also we were 50+ miles away from where we were staying, which was 5 miles from them.

Was holidaying it on a Maldivian Island one year when a woman came up to me and asked if I worked in Camden as she used to see me in the pub. Not only that, she was also in the same business and we had mutual friends.

Another time. Was on holiday on the Greek Island of Skiathos. Briefly spoke to another couple in a bar. A couple of years later we bumped into them again. In a bar in Toronto.

While out plotting a route for my first forum ride from Market Bosworth . I pulled into the the car park where we were starting to reset bike computer . I pulled up near 2 cyclists . Earwigging there conversation they were discussing a future internet forum ride . I recognised @Lilliburlero from photos on Cyclechat but we had never met before . I stepped forward and offered my hand on first name terms the look of surprise on @Lilliburlero face was complete shock . Were both 15 miles from home and we stop at the same spot at the same time !!!

I woke one morning and asked my ex-wife how her best friend was. She looked at me odd and asked why. I replied “she was in a car crash wasn’t she?” Turned out no she hadnt and I must have “dreamt it.”

That same evening she received a phone call for the friends husband saying said friend had been in a car crash late that afternoon!

I did the Ride Across Britain in 2016. On the train down to the start in Cornwall, I posted a picture on Facebook. 10 minutes later, I got a response from someone sitting a few carriages further down who had seen my post - it was my best mate from school who I haven't seen for over 20 years. We used to go on long cycling adventures together often when we were teenagers - eg one weekend when we were bored and had nothing better to do, we rode from his house in Ramsgate to Brighton (almost exactly 100 miles), stayed in the youth hostel then rode home the next day. We also went on a cycle camping trip to the alps one summer. Lost touch with him when things got a bit awkward between us a few years later after he started seeing my ex, but all water under the bridge and it was great to catch up with him - and spend some time on the bike with him as well.

Also on the RAB was a chap I'd met just a couple of months earlier on a club ride - we were both members of the club but he doesn't join club rides very often, which is why I'd never met him earlier. Not only do we ride for the same club, we have the same first name, do the same job and my wife has the same first name as his wife. Funnily enough, he was on the same train as well, and in the same carriage, sitting just a few seats away from me, even though we had booked our tickets entirely independently of each other. Despite all these coincidences, we've become good friends.

That's premonition, wonderfully defined in Dr Who by Peter Capaldi as "remembering in the wrong direction"
