Communications Specialist - What are Channels ?

With my current job looking a little a ropey - I have seen an add for a communications specialist - I meet most of the criteria - but it says I should demonstrate an understanding of 'Chanel's' - not quite sure what they mean ? - I understand different channels of communication - but it asks for an understanding of channels ?

Any ideas what this might be ?

Media, social media, Internet (erbsites, search engines, blogs, portals) professional bodies, other businesses, training/education/CME, literature, journals, colleagues/peers, key external experts......I'm looking at a list of them right now

Clearly they'll vary depending on the field (mine is Pharma), any way in which information might be communicated to staff, customers, government etc

You'll need expertise in designing content for relevant channels, such as websites I would assume in a Comms specialist role (not the techy bit though). What's the field?

Not sure, I spent 26 years cruising the English channel.

Isn't a channel somewhere you can park a specific frequency of broadcast so as to quickly access it.? Like bbc1 on the TV. You look up bbc 1 and there it is rather than having to tune to its specific broadcast frequency. A bit like a shortcut on a pc.

Basically what @vickster 's put. If they're looking for a communications specialist then a range of comms channels could mean anything from face-to-face meetings and communication (these days also via Zoom/others) through to designing full marketing/PR social media activity. And anything else in-between.

Jargon innit? Before you go for interview I should take a course in the latest catchphrases , othwise you might look a bit out of touch.
Heres one to start you off:

If you are able/capable of "thinking on your feet" (old school phrase) I was taught that at interviews you throw it back at them eg "that phrase can mean so many things, please tell me exactly what it means to you". Then, as they are waffling, you formulate your response.

Does your job not involve communicating with anyone...or is it all done by post-it for local communication or carrier pigeon for more remote comms?
Indeed, however I somehow manage to get by without fabricateing / attaching bizarre, esoteric labels to simple processes to make myself feel more important and confound others unfamiliar with this pseudo-lingo / buisiness-speak.

my first ever job in a supermarket was as a shelf-stacker.. not a sustainance-replenishment agent or any similarly ridiculous title drempt up by some middle-management muppet who by rights should probably have been redundant

The OP asked a serious question however which will help him hopefully get a new job as his currently might be under threat..
So there's really no need to take the pi$$ is there ;)
