Very tempted to make a Mame mini console at some point. I do occasionally play pac man, frogger and space invaders. I stopped gaming in my mid 20's. My son and daughter game alot - he has a high end gaming machine with 3 big screens, and my daughter has laptop and PS4 in her room, but is saving for a gaming PC.

My son is mainly into sims (driving etc) but also does GTA and one of the older Call of Duty on line games that's still massively popular. My daughter is more into Overwatch and similar type games.

I feel like I could... TAKE ON THE WORLD!!
Yes!

I spent days programming an adventure game into my ZX Speccy and all the time i thought this is going to be amazing when it's complete... I've never been very bright, so when i'm programming the bits that say "You're in a large cavern with a chest in the corner" or "You enter a glade, dappled with sunlight" ...I thought the Spectrum would somehow graphically render the cavern or the glade... it almost got thrown through the window when the program was complete and it just printed the text on the screen .
I’m old enough to remember the zx81 when people used to buy magazines with pages of code to tap in.

When I say people, I mean, dad

Hah, as recently as this year I found out that my mum and dad hated that thing; the noises drove them nuts. I surprised her by digging it out of the loft, I loved that thing!

Quake.
Then Quake with a Voodoo 3dfx graphics card - phenomenal looking at the time.

Mostly FPS shooters with a smattering of old school shooters and tower defence type games.
Currently a variety of PS3 games as the console + games was cheap enough that I could take to work (ship) and if it gets left there its no great loss

I don't play every day, but given the hours I spend on them each week, computer games / console games are definitely a hobby. Have been a fan since the good old C64 days.

I still have the occasional game of Doom or Final Doom on PS1. Spent way too much time on PS1 and 2 in the past. Die Hard Trilogy, Destruction Derby 2... same again. I foolishly got rid of Road Rash on the PS1 when I inherited the console from my son and have an ambition to reaquire it if ever I see it on a retro stall or other place. There's something really atmospheric about the music, graphics and gameplay of Doom that is just timeless. Never fails to make me smile.

In the last couple of years, I've bought both a PS3 and PS4. On the PS3 I got sucked into Red Dead Redemption - sometimes spending hours just riding around doing cowboy stuff in between storyline tasks. Fabulous game. Presently I'm working through GTA4 on PS3, having completed GTA5 on PS4 last year. I'm kind of in between games on the PS4 now having started The Last Of Us Remastered, Sniper Elite 4 and with Uncharted: TheNathan Drake Collection waiting its turn. I really enjoy open world games where you can go off and explore the environment and characters rather than feeling driven by a storyline.

Until recently, I've been playing a lot of Battlefield 1 on PS4, with a few detours into Battlefield Hardline and Battlefield 4. Battlefield 1 frustrates me at times though. I play it mostly online on the longer Operations mode. I sometimes come away after an hour or two having hugely enjoyed it, while other times I just seem to get bored or annoyed (I agree with those who complain about the fog - those who've played it will understand) and wish I'd played something else instead. Minor gripe though - overall, a great game.
I was the same with BF1 got bored after a few weeks and went back to BF4 and haven't played it for a year now so I hope BF5 keeps my interest.

Can I just quote this without context, because it looks like you are talking about your boyfriends?

Looks like monogamy is not for you. If BF5 doesn't hold your interest, suggest opening up the relationship, instead of moving on.

Thank you.

Anyone else used to painstakingly copy the program listings from the magazines to make your own games? Hours and hours of typing and searching back to try and find where you'd missed a digit to get it to work, only to end up with some slow and jerky "Spaceship" (A row of graphic Z's) wandering across the screen as you tried to shoot it down with an exclamation mark.

Yes, done that with a Spectrum to get a fluttering flag

It was humour. But obviously you are so farking amusing that the rest of us should stand down and just let the lolz roll in.
Ok, to explain, I felt your comment was a bit homophobic. If I had mentioned "your girlfriends" (which I wouldn't of course) there is an implied threat.
Can we move on? I don't want to argue with a fellow CC'er.
