70p a pint.

£5 = 7 pints = good night out

I remember my Dad did some plumbing at the Posthouse that was about to open near Lancaster. "£1 a pint.....I can't believe it". That must have been about 1986

How much was beer when you started drinking in pubs?

Bitter at 52p in the lounge, 51p in the bar for me.

I reckon we could age people fairly accurately from the responses!
Yep; you started drinking in pubs around 1978, same as me! If you started at 16 as I did (naughty, naughty; I know) then you were born in '62.
My first pub pint was in the Cathadhmara in Glasgow, 43 pence IIRC.. I was on an induction course at Glasgow Nautical College, August 1978, and was cacking myself in case I got a "knock-back" in front of all my new found workmates. Despite being an acne ridden, young looking 16 year old, all went well.

1979, at 17. Pretty accurate! Although the theory needs refining to take into account location and working men's clubs.
