Council leaf blower

I was cycling along yesterday when i came across the obligatory council worker duo. One sat in the wagon reading his newspaper while the other was there blowing the damp rotting leaves off the pavement into the cycle lane. He didn't even point the thing away from me as i passed,he seemed to enjoy doing what he was doing. I couldn't let this pass so i asked him if it the normal thing to do to just shift the leaves from one problem area to another instead of sweeping them up. He replied that he was making the pavements safer,to which i replied that he was making the cycle lane more dangerous by covering it in wet leaves. "They'll all be swept up by the mechanical road sweeper" he replied. When will that be i asked. "Next Tuesday" he replied.
So there you have it! Five days of a beforehand relatively debris free cycle lane where any cyclists will now have to negotiate inches of wet leaves because jobsworth's job is to make the pavements safer and by doing so make the cycle lanes more dangerous!

Same here though not a cycle lane.
They were blowing wet leaves from the cemetery entrance and piled them up on the path outside. It must have been about 4 inches deep.
There's no way it was safe to walk through, especially if it was someone with a pushchair. It took them about 4 days to remove them.
And this is what we pay taxes for??

Never mind, soon the councils will be advertising for volunteer(unpaid) leaf-wardens or else the snow-wardens will be sent on retraining courses. Once privatised the jobs will all be outsourced to India.

On a part of my route there's a contraflow cycle lane. At one point theres a small island. The council decided this was the place to put a pile of leaves, on the cycle path, right by the island so you can't ride around it. This was a few weeks ago. it's still there, somewhat diminished.

I shouldn't worry about it. It's just the council being green by trying to recycle stuff.

Are the council scared of being sued by pedestrians who slip on wet leaves? I would like to see whether a cyclist could sue the council if the cycle lane is covered in leaves?

I've just written to my local council to congratulate them on clearing part of the N75 cycle route that I use. It was thick with leaves across its entire width and has been completely cleared, not by blowing by by some kind of sweeper. Well done GCC!
