Looks like some great music on the thread. Haven't got past page two yet tho - when you're surfing round YouTube and Spotify it's easy to get side-tracked.

Discovered this track by Bow Thayer (fits in C+W, if not Bluegrass):

Sings in a country and wester style...

I don't like your county music
I'm gonna have-to refuse it
'cos I know it's boring me to tears
I get a headache when I hear it
I can't stand being anywhere near it
It's been the god damn same for year and years

It goes on...

I can't find a YouTube clip of it Unfortunatly .

The old Leon Payne song Lost Highway, made famous by Hank Williams, is one of my favourite songs.
Here's a nice find, Tom Petty singing his version, good piece of work...

Here's Leon's original, Hillbilly madness!

Why not, here's Ol' Hank.

Townes cut it too, slightly slower pace.

Bit faster, Jason and the Scorchers

Stick close to Emmy-Lou Harris and you won't go too far wrong.

Another big fan of ELH, maybe it's because she's a ringer for Mrs GM.
Love this song, duet with Mark Knopfler,...

There was a time in the 60s when Jerry Lee Lewis was the big name in country, this track is on a great CD reissue of 2 LPs on Raven Records.

There's some hilarious versions of that on youtube with Jerry Lee totally mullered! Having said that, the Killer's better than most even when not completely on-form.

You can tell on JLL's live at the Palomino that he's taken a drink, in fact he's fairly well lubricated, good fun though - the more Steinwayed he gets the more he name-checks himself, that's my theory.

Great thread, and well it's a depressing old day after the night before and some country's the only thing to hit the spot. Two more of the greats:

Once you get past Roger Miller's Do Wacka Do novelty stuff he's made some great country music. Good shout on Ray Price and Jean Shepard too

Would've been Doc Watson's 90th birthday today...
