Would folks expect this to be a problem?

Nothing sharp. Won't be taking any other tools.
By peg spanner i mean the small thing for holding the back of chainring bolts while you tighten/loosen them.

Never can be too careful. I know someone who was stopped with a d lock.

It could be no problem, it could be..... My take on security is if it's a questionable item, then sometimes it will go through no problem, sometimes not, depends on who is working that day.

Assuming you are taking a bike, any reason you can't just tape them to the frame? I'd say if you are taking them in hand luggage, just be prepared you might have them confiscated.... or not. Personally if I didn't want to run the risk of losing them, they'd be taped to the frame or in checked in luggage.

Oh and I always wanted to ask, where did you get the moniker of "Blue Hills" from?

I'm not taking a bike. No hold luggage at all. I fear you may be right about the risks. It can be daft. I am sure with a bit of thought deadly weapons can be fashioned from the most innocuous stuff carried in thousands of bags every day. Maybe i will have to post ahead anyway.

my mate had allen keys confiscated. the rules say no tools. he lost some sockets from a socket set. don't risk it. these things you want sound like stuff you could borrow from a bike shop.

Why not check in a bag? Could be an old one. Course if you are being charged for checked in bags, I'd think just posting it is definitely the way to go!

Thanks for the replies folks - have decided to post ahead - and will of course be flying with stuff that could do far more harm than either of these two items. I don't think all banned lists specify "tools" but i guess staff on the ground don't want to have to make judgements about individual items.

Got a pen knife in hand luggage to Munich and back last month no problem. Can't see you having problems
Surprised at that, i thought sharp items were a definite no no. Not sure i think much of their security.

However flew to Majorca last year from Liverpool and young lad next to me had , guitar tools confiscated
yes, bizarre - not really sure what a guitar tool looks like but can't imagine they are too deadly. Even an innocent soul like me can though easily imagine the damage you (one) could do with a guitar string.

As I said, given up, will post.

However the last time I flew, I passed through security and then bought a bottle of spirits, a handkerchief and a lighter . Combine those items in the right order and you have a IED.

I was forced to bin a calibrated vernier calliper before I was allowed through security. No time to take it back to the car, and They wouldn't allow me to leave it anywhere to collect on my return. :cursing:
I guess they thought I was gonna measure someone to death.
Many years ago I was stopped because the profile of the vernier I was carrying looked like a hand pistol on the X-ray, this was pre 9/11 so it was OK to carry on. Thing was that I was carrying hand luggage only and my bag was packed so tightly it was straining at the zips and the vernier was at the bottom, so it took me an age to re-pack everything, much to the annoyance of the passengers behind me!
