thanks just wanted to ask the question as i hardly ever use the smaller front gear even when climbing not going to lie am abit confussed i will keep reading and hopefully i will understand more in time lolPending the OP's answer . . . (he goes away to count carefully)
You can put a 52 on instead but then you'll need to change to a 36 for your smaller ring. A 16-tooth jump is the most a front derailleur can handle.
You could also swap out your cassette for one with an 11-tooth sprocket, if you currently you have a 12-tooth sprocket. Note that a 50-11 will give you a bigger gear than 52-12. A 50-11 would give you 43mph at a cadence of 120 (spinning out time).
