Cycle around Japan

I have been meaning to mention for ages, if anyone can get the NHK channel they have a great little show called Cycle around Japan. In English, great scenery and inspiring. Tends to be on towards the end of the week. Well worth a watch.

The bikes they use are not really my thing, I would take a much more leisurely approach but they are making watchable TV. Also the Japanese really are that approachable in real life.

My BIL lives in Japan so I take some interest in that country and often watch NHK. I’ve seen a lot of these cycle programmes, there are several English speaking cyclists riding/presenting them, I love watching. As you say, very inspiring, I’d love to ride there in the future.

I found this YouTuber who toured Japan in 2018/19 (I think), making a daily video, and doing the sort of thing I'd like to try sometime. I regularly show these to Beautiful Daughter as part of the Propaganda exercise to get her into cycle touring.

As she wants to come on a tour of Japan with me I reckon it is working.

Thanks - I deleted the NHK channel from my Freesat box years ago and had forgotten about it; I have just rescanned it and added it back!

The best way to discover these secret places -- the real Japan -- is to go exploring by bicycle.

So I will post "MY cycle around Japan" pictures here sometimes.

This beach is called Hojo Kaian and is famous for its beautiful sunsets.

My ride today.
Everything turns to red and yellow in the Autumn.
We call this red flower ‘manjushage’. It is a Sanskrit word and related to Buddhism, means flowers blooming in heaven.
We have an event to remember our ancestors during this flowering season.
So when I see these flowers I remember my ancestors and at the same time I feel that it is a bit spooky.

The yellow one is a rice field.
Our staple food, rice, is harvested in the Autumn.
