So I've had a good look and found a few local groups. I'm doings trial runs out to see which ones best.

Don't know all the details, insurance etc but I'm learning/reading a lot on here.

I'm really excited. I'm doing basic commute 75-100 miles per week but leisurely cycles are only up to 20 miles. I want to up my miles and learn to be more efficient. Also I am not as confident on roads as I'd like to be.

Love the passion and commitment of the local groups. How long have people been members? Would be great to hear how it's influenced others.

I've been riding with the local cycle nation group for a bit over two years. We're rather relaxed, day trips to look at things or go nice places. Not fast but I don't much see the point of that: what's the point of living somewhere beautiful if all you see is the wheel in front?

Don't rely on group insurance. Get your own. It's bundled with some home insurances, CTC, LCC or British Cycling memberships, or there are specialist packages.

I'm trying to see if i can tag it on to my self employed work insurance as it covers me for my commute.

Good point:thumbsup:

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Riding with my local club off and on for 3 or so years , less atm what with 2 young kids .
It has certainly helped me get the body used to longer rides , how to fuel, bike handling and most importantly meeting folk with a similar interest to mine .
My average speed has also increased over the same distances , i started with the steady group and now even with my irregular club runs i can hang onto the fast group .Like the OP i cycle commute on a full week 100 miles .

The Glue that binds us together.
Have really enjoyed myself since joining our local club, Started riding with them a couple of years ago, since joining i have done 10 mile TTs, rode on the Velodrome, met lots of new friends, done a lot of 100 + mile rides, got a lot fitter, I ride with a bit of a breakaway group in the week and sometimes at weekends, So club life to me is good. And we have a few social evenings as well.
