cycle shoe tongue rub

My giro herrduro shoes are comfy apart from the tongue which is pretty long , I have cut down into the tongue into the pre cut strips to make the tongue splay but it still feels what I would describe as niggly rather than uncomfortable.
Has anyone actually cut the tongue on shoes lower ?, I'm considering cutting them right down into the dots or actually cutting right across them to make the whole thing shorter ., old shoes tongue was no higher than the top of the shoe

My Sidi’s were like that until I noticed the pre-cut slits. I trimmed the ends to open up the slits all across the tongue and the issue went.

How many slots have you made? I have about 5 or 6 across the top.

+1 for above. Cut a ‘fan’ of slits where the tongue irratates you. Needn’t be more than about 3mm. My Sidi have them partially perforated as said which is a nice piece of attention to detail you would expect from them.

Already done it , i have just extended the central one a bit further and see how we go .

Cut down and still annoying , in fact when i did a calf stretch it felt like the front was digging into my ankle on the upper strap .

Maybe moleskin patch under the tongue at the top ? or suck it up and sell them ?
