Not really, even with 'hard' to purchase registration plates they seem to be fairly common place. I know of 5 or 6 incidents where fake plates have been used on vehicles, like the same set of safe guards are going to be put in place for cycles where the costs involved are going to be a significant.
5 or 6 ? thats going some.

Not really, just reading the local papers brings out fake or duplicate plates every few months, so how many cases aren't getting reported in the local? It's also a big enough problem that plates are covered/obscured on damaged vehicles being transported about. Stolen vehicles are recovered on a daily basis from unsuspecting owners of a bargin car. The system is just about keeping it all together but the biggest problems aren't being solved.

Col you can come up with reasons all you want. The bottom line is that I am an Englishman and am free to walk or cycle on our highways as I please without let or hindrance. No permissions, no telling anyone where I'm going, no tracking my movements (apart from using my mobile maybe) None of your reasons are anywhere near strong enough to override that basic freedom.
Im not trying to, do you complain of this with your car? or your home? These things are needed so we can be identified, for whatever reason, so i just think the same could apply to us, I think it would help more than not.

I'd maybe go along with licensing bikes if anyone could tell me how I, or society at large, or anyone at all would benefit thereby.
Buggered if I can see it, myself.
Licensing cars and drivers doesn't stop car crime, theft, driving like an idiot or anything else, so I fail to see the point of applying the same failed methodology to bikes.

It does though, thats the point im trying to make. It makes it harder, so less happens.Just think how much more there would be if they werent Licensed?

Are you familiar with Animal Farm? Cars licensed good, bikes licensed bad. Now we don't want to move to the next stage do we?
The talking animals? Seen the disney like film, why?

Here's another singular excuse for you then, try Googling 'Vicky Pryce speeding'
I dont need to, I realise there are lots of unsolved crimes out there, but the there are also plenty of solved ones.
