Cycling in a lockdown zone.

Here in Wales just about every city or county along the coast from Newport to Llanelli and up to the Brecon Beacons is under local lockdown. At least under the previous lockdown we were allowed to ride a reasonable distance from home, but now I am stuck in Cardiff, and can't even ride as far as Barry. My boundary is between three and seven miles depending on the direction.

I often meet a friend, who lives just outside Cardiff, at a cafe in Cardiff Bay or Penarth, for a mid-point coffee in both our rides. We are now in the position where the only place we can meet up within the regulations is halfway across the barrage.

It looks as if I am going to have to plan some interesting, if less scenic, routes within the Cardiff boundary.

Have the Welsh government specifically stopped people riding from one area to another, serious question as if you're out on your own & you are self sufficient, wheres the risk if there's no cafe stop ?

You've got quite different restrictions to my area, which has been under a 'no visitors, no meeting others' since early August. I can still go out on the bike, which I'm doing solo, and that my club is only having group rides of 6 and no stopping.

Seems ridiculous to me, if you don't stop or come into contact with anyone else, whats the problem, plus Welsh Cycling claiming a rider isn't insured if out of their local area is out of order too.
How do you know you're not going to stop or come into contact with anyone? You may not intend to, but circumstances can change in a manner out of our control.

The Welsh government, like the national government has taken a lot of flack over how they've handled this pandemic, some of it deserved but whatever they do will be wrong in someone's eyes.

Seems harsh. Hope my area doesn't get locked down.

So you can commute from area to area, but not go for a ride on your tod , go to work and mix but not do a loop where you stay away from others, then threaten to void your insurance, this covid is cleverer then we give it credit for it can tell the time and infect you on the dot of 10 pm, or wait while you cross into another area and get you, either lockdown fully, or don’t bother.

A line has to be drawn somewhere and it cannot be perfect or suit everyone. Rightly or wrongly pubs are allowed to open for a limited period and you are allowed out of your area to travel to work because a balance has to be drawn between controlling the spread of the virus and protecting the economy - on which we all depend.

Think "Lockdowns" etc. Have failed. Pointless as I see large groups of all ages, mixing & socialising as normal.
Personally feel it would be better to let this run it's course.
And yes I do know am fully aware of the fact an awful lot of people will die because of it. But isn't that the nature of disease? To kill off over population.
