I've planned a route for tomorrow http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/fullscreen/216895873/ which takes me up and around the volcanic area of Timanfaya National Park. It is about 51 miles with 2,500 feet of climbing.

Really looking forward to it

Have fun!

I believe that strong wind can often be a bit of a factor over there but I hope it isn't too bad for you tomorrow.

I didn't even consider going for a ride whilst out there but having saw you post and doing a bit of a google I'm gonna do this too.

Just looked at your map (and asked SWMBO where we are going) and we are staying in Matagorda - quick google search appears that Flistons seem recommended.

Any one here any experience of these?...

Interested to hear how you get on @Norry1

I'm on holiday in Ibiza at the moment, decided to hire a road bike. Then decided Ibiza isn't too big of an island, i can circle it in a day

81.5 miles and 7000ft later I was knackered! Glad I did it though. Was a great ride.

Legs are just about recovered now. Rest of the holiday is sun and making the most of the all inclusive bar. Oh and chasing my 16 month old daughter around all day!

Jealous doesn't begin to cover it xx(

PROBIKE in La Santa is a proper LBS style bike shop, and the Bike Cafe on the left as you hit La Santa is a great place to sit with a drink and watch the bike porn coming and going.

I took my own bike with me in 2009 and it remains the very best cycling I've ever done.

The road users give you loads of room, the surafces are phenomonal, (on the main roads at least).

The only thing to watch for are volcanic flints, had more flats thhere than anywhere else.

Enjoy

Well that was fun.

For anyone interested, I rented the bike from Papagayo bike shop. Dominic was very helpful. Cost 24 euros per day.

In the end, I did 45.5 miles as I didn't do the loop of the volcano area for several reasons, one of which was I got there before it opened. Route is here http://app.strava.com/activities/57083789

Roads were very quiet and in the main in very good nick. There were loads of painted messages on the road from the Ironman Triathlon. It was pretty hilly but no real steep hills. 12% was the highest I noticed.

The main problem was the strong wind which made me slow down a few times for safety reasons!

Hopefully, thanks to my very understanding lady, I get to do it all again tomorrow - maybe a tad longer and the other way around

How the hell did you get a day pass from the Missus to do an 80 mile ride whilst on holiday? Can you have a word with mine please?
