Where to Stay
Playa Blanca has everything from Self Catering to Five Star Hotels

We stayed in an apartment like this..,

It was very easy to get on with

We hired a car from one of the main companies, picked up at the Airport. Booked in advance obviously.

This was a stunning looking hotel, one of the best..

Make sure you ask for a bike with gears for hills, I mistakenly took a TT bike which was a bit of a hassle on the hills.

Cycling Routes
I had a bike for three days, the roads are silky smooth and yes there are winds occasionally. Get up nice and early before it gets too hot.

Playa Blanca to Femes (Nasty Hill section)
Playa Blanca to Maciot to Las Brenas to La Hoya, El Golfo and back
And Playa Blanca to Timanfaya is a must - but I did not get to do this sadly!

Best advice I can offer is unless you are already booked to go to Lanzarote, then book Majorca instead. The roads in Lanza are great, but there is every chance that the wind will utterly destroy the enjoyment.
Blimey that is negative. I have been about half a dozen times and generally the wind blows from the NE (island is oriented SW to NE)

A couple of times I have had the wind from the SW which is much harder but to write it off for wind reasons is very negative

Last time we were there we had a steady northerly of around 20mph on average. Given that the only way out of PdC is by climbing in a northerly direction (or east, along the coast path, which eventually takes you north anyway), it put a downer on most of our riding. So yes, that is negative. It certainly isn't positive, that's for sure.

The climb from Playa Blanca to Femés was a tough climb but great fun

That and the climb up from the coast past Tabayesco to the Los Helechos bar are the two best rides IMO. The roads are so good with so little traffic that it's usually possible to break your fastest speed on a bike if you get on one of the long downhills with a hefty tailwind. Even I get into the high 40 mph's and I'm no descender!

On our second trip to Lanzarote, one of the guys took a triathlon bike out (against the advice of the rest of the group), on the first day he was blown off the road and he broke his shoulder and bike. Had to fly home.
