pay a bit of money for these, any other apparel you can save on but not shorts!

That's the received wisdom, I'd personally disagree. I bought 6 pairs of DHB Aeron sport @ £35 each; I could have easily spent 4 or 5 times that on assos or rapha for example. But they worked fine for me during 60 hours in the saddle over 4 days, not problems at all, so there is really no reason for me to spend any more.

You need to spend the amount you need to spend, but if you can find the right things at a discount price go for it. If you are having problems with saddle sores etc, then you do need to spend more money

(mind you, I happily did a couple of 200kms in these enduras , so I guess I'm an outlier)

So you spent 6x 35 quid I never stated how much money to spend I've bought cheaper and bought dearer. My point is Aldi or lidl a 7quid a pair are useless. DHB are decent but imo not that great. The more expensive will imo be a better fit. Take me years to except it but it's fact!

(well, judicious use of hand basins allowed me to return 3 pairs unworn: 6 were purchased so I could have a change even if I couldn't find a suitable place to wash them, or they disappeared while drying.)

Depends on the shape of your body, I guess. I must just have a more cheaply shaped arse than you

I have a pair of Lusso that were £28 from Merlin, they've done rides up to 5+ hrs and are very comfortable.

I recently bought a pair of dhb Aeron Pro from Wiggle as they had an offer on, £55 instead of £75. I'd say there is very little difference in comfort although the pad in the Dhb is thicker.

i think a lot of it depends on your weight . i am 14 stone so i have some £65 specialized cycling shorts , nice thick pad and good for 5 hour + rides . now a girl i ride with is 8.5 stone and never spends a lot on shorts and thinks cheaper ones are very comfortable . i go on the bigger you are the more money you spend the more comfortable you will be .

And without wishing to stoke up the "team kit" and "dodgy copies" debate, I'd also recommend the quality of the pads in my Chinese replica kits.

Another + for DHB. I have the Aeron Race bibs, and they are pretty comfortable. I might be wrong, but I think they use the same (or an extremely similar one by the same manufacturer, CyTech) pad as the Rapha shorts.

I used to use the 5 rated decathlon shorts and they were good but i have recently moved onto dhb aeron from wiggle at a similar price and they are better and with a return policy its easy to get the right size.

DHB Aeron Race or Aeron Pro. I like them a lot. Endura FS260 Pro are also very comfy.

I'm gonna look at them, a lot of people have recommended them

Not bad shorts in general but shorts are quite personal, depending on fit and distance to cycle!
