Never subscribed to them before until this Sept and won't renew! All new subscribers in Sept were to be sent a free gift, some Madison cycling shorts. Never arrived. My wife called them to find out where they were, they apologised and said they will send some asap. That was two weeks ago. Not arrived. She called them again yesterday and they said they couldnt send any as they had run out. She asked if the free gift now could be sent instead, they said no as the supplier for those is different and not linked to the Sept offer! They gave her a poxy free month extension. Seems to me this free gift malarky is a bit of a scam. Cant get a refund neither. I cancelled my Boxing News subs for this, when I was with them they sent the free gift within 1 week of starting the sub. Seems like some companies do not value their customers
Have a look at the small print I have thought about subscribing to cycling Weekly but reading the small print the very small print it is for the first so many applicants .Still buy mine from the local paper shop

I quite like it as a relative newcomer to cycling. I've never followed the local cycling scene so haven't missed it being in the magazine! I can get by with the odd edition purchased from Tesco if I see something interesting on the cover or if I want something to read on the train/in work.

I had the same issue with Trail Mag a few years ago, the memberhip/subs included a camp stove I needed, so I ordered it. It didnt arrive and so I chased them and they offered a head torch instead... Anyway after much shouting it arrived, then another and another... Bonus. Cancelled my DD as well.

I've got a torque wrench that came free with a sub to C+, maybe ten years ago. I did have to phone them up after a while and remind them to send it, but all ended well.

CW is in an awkward position in this day and age. It used to be the club riders bible, everyone read it and nearly everyone who was a serious cyclist belonged to a club back in the sixties and seventies so the content was aimed at them. They now have more potential readers but a much lower number in percentage terms of club members, so I can understand them trying to pitch at the sportive riding high income newcomers to the game, but they have abandoned their roots and for me there is no reason to buy it anymore.

CW is far too expensive for what it is. It pretty much ignores everything except racing & sportives & componentry thereof. The heath and fitness stuff tends to be plugging the latest fad theories, and they've taken to making stupid tech viewpoints as well (Are compact chainsets out of fashion? What was the writer on? FFS). The bike tests seem based on preposterously low mileage- 250 miles or less. If you want racing coverage, the monthlies do it better. If you're a sportive-riding MAMIL who thinks audax is something you find in a chemist, you'd be better off with the new unimproved Cycling Active. Cyclist does high-end stuff much better, and interesting articles too. C+ and Bikes Etc both make a much better fist of appealing to a broad(er) range of interests and riders.

I recently took up an offer in Cyclist magazine for three issues for £5 plus a free Lezyne Pressure Drive pump. The free gift arrived within a few days of taking out the subscription and I have the option to cancel at any time before the 6 monthly subscription is taken (after the free trial).
