People would be prepared to pay if there were no other choice. The alternative would be getting off their fat behinds to do it themselves and that doesn't seem likerly now theyre accustomed to it.

As with the rising price of other luxuries they'll grumble but still pay it because theyre lazy lemmings.

Basically, they're leeching off society and wouldn't have a viable business model without it.

Because it costs more money to provide these services in a decent way than people are prepared to pay for them.

Kind of agree but if the laws are enforced and demand is there then the supply will come either from the same companies at less profit, a different company or for slightly higher prices for the consumer (or all 3). It wouldn’t collapse. Something would fill the void.

Agree, though I suspect charging a fair price would very significantly reduce demand.

Because the large majority of the UK population aren't using bikes, the shenanigans of moped/illegal Ebikes delivery drivers using cycling facilities inconveniences only us, the few that cycle.
Of course the pedestrians too, if the deliveroos use shared paths: again, not a lot of folks compared to drivers.
Hence, imo, nobody in a position to do something really cares.
Still, as cyclists, we should protest more, imo.

Yes, again, why is nobody in power taking action?
All those infractions should draw the attention of someone that could stop this.
Imo, it's because customers want their delivery, they don't care who gets to them: after all only a very small part of road users are inconvenienced, it's just cyclists.

because I suspect its whack-a-mole in many respects, takeaway food deliveries existed long before e-bikes, or mopeds became the favoured modes of transport, they used to drive cars, many of which werent particularly road worthy, and were driven with about as much respect for the highway code as Amazon van drivers do thesedays.

so yes they can be annoying, but largely theyre still more of a danger to themselves than pedestrians or other cyclists.

which brings us back to this particular sad case, which whilst the details are still sketchy the one thing they have ruled out is it was anything to do with fast food delivery riders.

and I dont know how you prevent moped riders, apparently racing each other or maybe chasing down one another on this segregated cycleway, from doing this as a general thing, I saw the LCC chair criticised the acces the cycleway enables for mopeds, though how on earth you design something that supports one two wheeled set of users but not others I dont know, I do know focussing on fast food delivery issues wont solve this though.

for now I think we just have to treat it as a tragic one off, hope the police have arrested the right people, and they feel the full force of the law for what they did.

I have no idea what it like down south, but up north these delivery firms do provide a required service for those without transport, cos we don't get buses or many taxis avaiable to go for a take out.. But if the drivers aren't qualified to ride then thats a whole different problem.

How did the locals ever get take aways in the past? Don't tell me they...I can barely bring myself to say the word...walked?!

Takeaways have been experiencing an upward trajectory for years. But it would seem that the people who actually order these takeaways and go and collect it themselves, well their trajectory is very much on the slide. Why move out of the comfort of your home if, for a small charge on top of the takeaway price, you can get it delivered to your door?

Around our way the fast food places have a driver who delivers the food. All cars as far as I can see. But more and more, just over the last few months actually, I've noticed there are a lot of these e-bikey moped type things with the big carrier box on the back. I've actually had a couple pass me.

The thing is, these guys are probably chasing their arses most of the time, under pressure from the shop to get the food out to customers. And sadly, whilst that scenario continues, then both pedestrians and cyclists, and indeed other road users need to take care until a time where the problem can be addressed. But what can be done?

All uphill, mebe its a northern thing.... it was a few years ago, and I asked a taxi driver if he was having a busy night... He said he was always busy on Thu /Fri nights cos people have parties or just drink at home.... so it was not unusual for him to be caled and the fare was ...can you go to Tesco's for some beer/fags and a couple of pizzas, or to pick up a takeaway that they had ordered. So he wasn't transporting people, just their food ....So I can see why these delivery systems started up..... Also noted by the amout of pubs that have closed, cos no one can afford a night out at £5 a pint.

However Our Lass works in the Co-op and regulary on a sat morning at 07:30 they get deliveroo orders for just fags and spirits and its a big mark up for delivery .... So are some people lazy or just desperate
