The latest tweet states the cyclist is saying nearly ran over his foot.

Do ASL's create the "must get in front" syndrome for cyclists?
Personally I would have just waited behind the Audi.
There's nothing "hard" about that behaviour. It was a sucker punch, a coward's trick.
Would you still be spouting this triumphalist macho rubbish if the cyclist had been fatally stabbed instead of punched for standing up to a bully?
It's called an Advanced Stop Line, designed so that cyclists can get to the front of the traffic at lights. If you don't like them then lobby for their abolition. If you don't understand how they work maybe you should avoid them, but don't critcise someone who does.Cyclist out of order pulling in front like he did, give and take on both sides is the order of the day, i see it every day on my commute cycles deliberately trying to hold up cars, as someone said earlier the car is always going to be quicker away. the driver was out of order for decking him, but maybe the cyclist has learnt a lesson. only have a go at people who are smaller than you.![]()
I hadnt spotted that it was a passenger.
That does change things a bit, as the passenger had nothing to do with the driving and wasnt being shouted at, they cant use @CopperCyclist self defense arguement.
It wasn't self defense, he got out of his car to assault someone wh, although annoying, didn't attempt to physically harm him. Slf defense only works as a defense if you're being physically threatened.I wouldn't bother. The driver would be able to get off on an argument of 'self defence' of myself and my property due to the way the cyclist came to his window. The camera shows him deliver one punch, and then stand back - he doesn't even follow it up with threatening behaviour.
Yes, his driving was poor, and no the cyclist certainly wasn't 'asking' for it - I'm not saying that, but I believe the driver would have a defence in law, based on what can be seen on the camera.
Moral of the story - leave it at pointing out the ASL if you must - don't chase down drivers just to vent your spleen at them. It could have finished much wise for that cyclist if the driver hadn't left it at one punch and had followed up with further kicks while the guy was down. (which would have been assault, but would it be worth it!)
Wanted by the YouTuber in order to potentially prosecute the driver.

I think most of us understand how an ASL works, just in this situation with just one car waiting would it not be better just to take primary behind it.It's an ASL - it's there to allow cyclists to get ahead of the traffic. The clue is in the name. The driver, and, it seems, most of you lot, don't know how an ASL works.
