Yes a death occurred, but didn't they then extend the scheme to another five junctions?
Yup and another one a couple of months ago - day one - a car crash (literally)

This is all anecdotal, but the irony is not lost one me.

Surprised at those on here admitting to being RL jumpers just because they deem it safe. Red lights are not optional and are a part of the rules of the road and should be obeyed at all times. How can we be angry when motorists don't obey the rules when we pick and choose ourselves?

it is those that don't follow the rules that make life harder for those that do.

I think the problem is they breed anti-cyclist sentiment. Pure and simple, people don't like it when cyclists don't follow the rules and cause problems for all of us.
I think you'll find that sentiment lies squarely with the driver, nothing to do with the cyclist as what they do is pretty much harmless.

If morons get annoyed and punish you because of it, blame them.

The better way is to get riding All traffic lights, aside from crossings.

We have a particularly busy set of traffic lights locally, especially during peak times. It always has tailbacks. They redeveloped an area off one side and built an Asda there. They had to remove the traffic lights during building and the tailbacks went away and there were no accidents whatsoever. Everyone thought it was a major improvement, except the authority, who reinstated the lights once finished. There is a huge space for a roundabout there, but shortsightedness rules it seems!

Put junctions or roundabouts where traffic lights are and this whole argument goes away, congestion improves and road users of all kinds enjoy the experience more.

From what I witness on a daily basis the main conflict caused jumping red lights is between cyclists and pedestrians, who expect to be able to cross the road when the lights are at red - not unreasonable IMO.

Then why is it that 98% of KSI from RLJ is from cars? It would appear that they are 49 times worse?

Is it currently an offence to run a red light as a cyclist? It's definitely a grey area, and as much as I chastise fellow cyclists for running lights, I must admit I don't actually know...

It is, you can be issued with the same Fixed Penalty Notice as a motorist.

Not quite. It is an endorsable offence for a motorist, so they get 3 points on their licence. Cyclists don't need a licence and can't be given points on their driving licence for offences committed on a bike.

Yes.............
Been doing it for years. Done with care, using common sense, and not getting in anyone else's way, it is not a problem as the authorities in Paris have finally realised
And I maintain what I have said in previous similar threads, that there are circumstances where sitting at red lights is verging on stupidity. 3am at the entrance to a closed Tesco in sleepy Kilbirnie, anyone? Central London during rush hour is a different story of course, but I hope we are all grown up enough to use our own judgement.

Ah, I thought the FPN was just a fine?
It's been a while (been retired 14 years now); but there are different types of FPN.. In my day there were only two and both for Road Traffic offences. Endorsable, and non endorsable. The former for stuff like jumping red lights, parking on zig zags at crossings etc.. Non endorsable for not wearing a seat belt, having a light out, and other more minor stuff.
Nowadays FPN's are being used for a lot more stuff like littering, drinking alcohol in public, and even some public order offences.
