Apologies for not reading all the replies, but I am currently residing in China and strongly believe that the UK should adopt the China rules.

Think they are along the lines of "do what you farking like" lol.

But bizzarly it works. No one gets angry yet everyone cuts each other up constantly. I even cycle the wrong way up the road and get over taken by others doing the same, no one cares

Cars can filter right on a red light, or just jump them altogether, bikes can go any which way and pedestrians spend their time buried in their phone and don't even notice the road.

Yet I have seen very few accidents....don't get me wrong the driving, cycling and walking standard here is not great but the lack of aggression makes it so much safer

Why not? He said most conflict is from cyclists. The stats say otherwise.

Maybe there is greater number of conflict but it us harmless. In which case who cares?

did you take lessons in being a farkwit or does it come naturally?
What a considered and wise response.

Rlj is something I dont do. It is pretty harmless. I couldn't really careless if people do it or not. As a pedestrian it never bothers me. What does is the danger from cars. I've lived in London most of my life. Rlj cyclists are neither here nor there not something that bothers me.

The pathetic idea is that something harmless shoukd be stopped else car drivers will get annoyed and hurt us. And peopke are upset with the cyclusts in this.

I see it comes naturally!

Pissing off pedestrians (note, not car drivers!!!!) who are forced to avoid a farkwit cyclist is not pretty harmless.

One of these days, I really will stand my ground a let a farkwit RLJ cyclist bounce off the shoulder of my not insubstantial frame when they try to pass in front of me on a crossing - I know who will come off worse

Except I've done it millions of times. Of all the things to get worked up about its pretty flippin low on the list.

i bet you almost wish they would to prove a point too.

It's interestung you would like to punish an avoidable collision with the knowledge the cyclust will be hurt.

Seems to work fine for pedestrians
True, as does travelling on the pavement, climbing escalators, using the tube, jumping on a bus, entering shops, poodling around the aisle at tesco and walking across the orchard to the pub.

Not everything that works for a pedestrian translates safely to driving a car.

If your jumping puts others at risk, prepare for a backlash (especially if I happen to be crossing), if it doesn't...good luck to you.

There is a difference between those who jump and endanger others (in fact these types of riders tend to endanger others just with their riding style) and those who jump and only risk themselves.

Regardless though, everyone should stop at reds...that's what reds are for.

What's the mortality rate?

I think the real reason why RLJing can be done so safely in the UK, is that there are far too many red lights.

I'd say more than 50% of those I encounter could be, and should be give ways.

Those which are even more irritating are the red lights, which turn green, and then are immediately followed by a give way marking. It's almost as those Red Lights are used to compensate for the brain dead driving of this country.

The majority of safe ones to ignore on cycles are also safe to ignore in a car too, but there's far too many drivers who don't pay attention to surroundings. I say it will be a good thing to make all red lights advisory only for cyclist (though I would still stop at them, as I would likely need the rest  )
