Thread revival!
In all my 50-something years, I'd never planned to "go out for a run" until Monday evening.
And God, did my thigh muscles hurt afterwards.
Two days on and they're not much better; They're particularly sore if I engage them by bearing my weight on bent knees, eg descending stairs, jumping off things, etc.
So what's going on, and would a gentle jog help? Or a gentle spin on the bike? Foam roller/tennis ball? Are there any shortcuts to recover or do I just need to rest?
My wife had warned me to take it easy. I thought I was doing exactly that by going at a slow pace!
I suspect I should have thought about warm up/down, alternating running with walking, adding rests, stretching. I've got a Couch to 5K plan for next time and will start at the beginning!
Oh, and to get back on topic, a cyclist passed me as I was running. No, I didn't say Hello; I was too busy focusing on my pain! He didn't say Hello either, the scrawny lycra-clad git!
