Near mansion house....both have a cycle lane which is closed.

Also what is the legality? Will plod pull you up for not dismounting and using the pinch points instead?

Nicely parked van in that pic confusing it even more.

Grrr..

Hate things like this. It subtly reinforces the commonly held misconception that cycle lanes are mandatory FOR CYCLISTS. Dismount because "YOUR lane is closed"

No reason for it.

What's the legality on this sign by the way? Just theoretically, would it be an offence at all to ignore it (as I would)

A SENSIBLE sign might read "Cycle lane closed - proceed with caution" - aimed at both bikes and cars.

'....cause cyclists shouldn't be on the bl**dy road! That's why!!'

(As shouted by the WVM who placed the sign there...)

Yes it's totally wrong but plod gave way to me yesterday although I let him go into the pinch point first,so he didn't make a big deal about it.

There seems to be road works everywhere.

There's one like that near the UNI. it's on the crossing though, which used to be ped only traffic lights (cycle lanes on both sides, just not a cycle crossing).

The one I've seen isn't unsensible...it's just annoying that it's in the middle of the crossing, rather than to the side.

No wonder motons get the hump.

The signs shouldn't be there even the motons know that.

Signs giving orders are mostly circular

Signs giving warnings are mostly triangular

Signs giving information are mostly rectangular

This sign is not in the highway code at all, not even under the section on signs relating to road works.

It is therefore an information sign telling everyone that cyclists do on occasion get off their bikes, strange as this concept may seem to us.

That annoyed me last week too - I guess it might be because the works cause an abrupt, long, pinch point - but you just need to take primary early and put your foot down.

There are soooo much works going on on my may back at the mo. It's always the same this time of year.. the councils hang on to their road budgets in case of a big emergency - then have to spend it all before the end of the financial year in case the lack of spending means their next budget is cut.

Its an instruction to cyclists planning to use the cycle route (the pathetic attempt at a cycle specific section of road. pah) that they need to dismount. Its a joke
