Cyclists hitting an invisible gate.

Strangely enough today I had the opposite experience of the riders hitting the gate. I was going down a country lane where cows often are taken for milking and there was one of those lines strung between poles they have at the side of the road to stop the cows going all over the verges. For a moment I thought it was stretched across the road and slammed on my brakes. Good job no-one was around to see it, I felt very foolish.

Warning video shows cyclists getting hurt.

Apparently this video was filmed in Sheffield. The path and gate seem very dangerous. Anyone local to this area? Surely the council need to do something before someone dies?
And yes they are all probably going too fast for a shared use path.

There should be a sign, and the bar should be painted a bright color.

Can someone go over there and spray paint the gate yellow or make some sort of valiant and permanent effort to make it more visible to bicyclists? Looked at how far it is from me and its 200+ miles. I think the best bet is contacting nearest bike shop in the area and PayPal someone there to do it. There is also a climbing gym nearby and there's usually a lot of active transport and cyclist in the climbing community.

I'm not morally above watching someone fall and having a slight laugh, but this goes well beyond such as they are looking at serious injury and complications. Those gate are hard to spot even in good weather.

Followed it up and its got hi-viz put on it shortly after those videos went viral.

Sustrans marked it and have notified the council about it. They were the ones putting hi viz on it as well.
