My son's just finished his first ever paper round. He showed me his delivery list,

I'm quite alarmed by how many of my neighbours have the Daily Mail delivered. Only one Daily Star.

Disappointing.

You need to move.

Not at the moment. Not one single Guardian on the list. There was one Telegraph though.

Tomorrow will be the best day, see how many Sunday Sport readers there are,

I don't agree. The worldview that underlies the Mail is so repellent to me that I can't read it. My parents, like many others, read the Mail unthinkingly every day and absorbed all sorts of nasty takes on life without even realising they had. Some of the things they used to come out with really shocked me.
I agree. People often regurgitate nonsense from the media without analysing it. Then they're allowed to vote.

I'm afraid, Mail and Telegraph readers are the mainstay of my sons paper round. I suspect leftie Guardian readers read their stuff online or pick one up when they go out for their organic eggs and bacon. Mail and Telegraph readers tip quite well too.

It's quite charming that newspapers still exist, like phone boxes, DVD rental shops. I don't know anyone under 40 who 'takes' a newspaper every day, they consume news via more immediate means - web, apps, social meeja etc etc. I think once you get to under 20, readership must be virtually nil.

My parents get the Daily Mail, they're often pointing out 'disgusting' stories to me, I used to gently point them to their laptop to go and corroborate them but I think they're happier reading the paper and having their views given to them. It wasn't *that* many years ago that I too used to read the Daily Mail and Daily Express, like others have said, I saw it a step above the red tops. It was only after I left the air force and started a different job that my eyes were opened. I think that's what it might take to see the light on these things.

That's true too. Two of his papers got cancelled this year because the people died. His biggest section of papers is in retirement flats.

The future of paper rounds are under threat and it seems not many kids want to do it now. He does four rounds because others have packed it in and they can't get anyone else to do it.
