Looking at the 2013 range,

The Galaxy AL has replaced the Vantage (Alu framed),
The Galaxy and Super Galaxy have moved down to 520 Chromoly so are basically the old Horizon and Horizon Plus, though the disk brakes are new.
The Galaxy Classic is the new equivalent to the 2012 Galaxy.

I actually prefer the 2012 paint scheme though

I live in Cornwall and it's loaded sometimes for work. I go up 1x 8% 2x 10% and a 14% on my route to work...

Loaded as in 4 panniers, a tent, a sleeping bag, mat, 3 bottles of water and a bar bag sort of loaded? What if the OP fancies crossing the Pyrenees or the Alps at some point in the future? Why would you recommend something completely unsuited to the role in question simply because you can get up a few hills on a commute to work?

I have had a look @ the 2012 Galaxy, took it for a test spin and liked it, so now waiting for the paperwork through cycle saver scheme @ work.
Depending on how long it takes for the paper work to go through it will be either a early birthday present or a late one to myself ^_^

I bought a 10 year old galaxy for £100 (bargain i know) on the ctc website, a source of well looked after and non-stolen bikes. Its got me over the routes des grandes alpes with no problems at all and i'm an old man. I'm heading for the pyreneen raid this year and looking forward to having a comfortable ride on it.

Why are you looking only at a galaxy? I was looking for a touring type bike and I found them very expensive for what you get. I ended up with a Kona honky inc for 1000gbp from my LBS but you can get them from here for 925 http://www.evanscycles.com/products...oogle&utm_medium=froogle&utm_campaign=froogle
If you look at the specs it just wins out hands down and with disc brakes can take loaded braking much better than calliper systems.

I too was considering tbe Honky Tonk and the only thing I could find wrong with it is it's stupid name! I was worried about the gearing but if you say it's fine...I believe they no longer offer the Inc. so would have to be the standard one. Does it have eyelets for a rack?
