Hi

I have just bought a Dawes Galaxy Plus. I got it for a really good price, £808 including delivery. I have read some forums where it is mentioned as being a good bike. I am planning, along with several othesr, to do a 1000 mile tour of France, Holland and Denmark later this year. Is this bike going to be suitable? I know, horse, door, bolt etc as I have already bought it, but thought the Dawes would be better than my 1989 Peugot racer.

I have a bog standard Dawes Galaxy and love it. It carry's a load well so i can't see you having any problems. Enjoy your riding!

Excellent. I am looking forward to it. I still haven't received it though. I will let you know how I get on once I have got it.

It's what that bike was born to do! As long as it fits you properly it should be pretty much perfect.

That looks like an exciting tour. I hope you enjoy yourself; and don't forget to tell us all about it when you get back!

The Dawes Galaxy Plus is one of the touring bikes on the planet so it should be perfect for your tour. However if you are still uncertain I'll happily test ride it for a few months for you just to make sure ;)

If you bought the bike mail order it might be worth asking your local bike shop to check that everything is set up correctly before you go on your tour. Even if they charge you a bit for this it would be a worthwhile investment before embarking on a 1000 mile tour (unless you are confident about setting up everything yourself). You bike shop shouldn't mind being asked to do this, as most now make a handsome living out of sorting our problems with mail order bikes, or bikes bought Halfords.
