Well i got the work done , ie bars , brake levers and thumb shifters . The butterfly bars are a revelation and i dont know if its the 26 inch wheels but the gears are so much easier than the same setup on my Trek 7.5 fx . Gave the bike and myself a good workout on Sunday covering alot of the Dartmoor classic route , so some very testing climbs and i managed to stay in the middle ring all the way , where as i live in the granny ring on the Trek , i cant fathom that one out . Anyway im one happy bunny . Photos taken at Hound Tor but i can only manage to get one uploaded ,dont know what im doing wrong again ...

All that matters is the bike seems to ride perfect and you're happy with both the bike and your performance   ... love the bar set up

+1 nice looking bike (with mounts for disc brakes later on). Just need to remove the zip tie from the price label now

Already in discussion with LBS about disc brakes , as the brakes are the only thing im not sure about . The mini v's come in cheaper but im quite sold on the discs .

Hi it looks great, you may already knows this but thought I would warn you as you may be under an illusion that your carrier is a Tubus Cargo or Tubus Logo.

it should say Tubus on the top, you will find two foreign words, google them and it will show you who makes the rack, it is aluminium and not as strong as a tubus

Great bike you've got there. I have a Sardar and it's a super work horse. Used for camping, commuting and the odd Audax. I have fitted bull bars with bar end shifters in the end,sounds odd, but it works great.
I am also thinking of going down the disc brake route. The only thing putting me off is that I would end up with loads of redundant non disc wheels. And also the expense, not of the brakes themselves but I have a Schmidt dynohub at the moment and a new disc hub is £180.

Thought I'd also pay homage to this great bike too. I've nearly finished the build on mine,.it was resprayed at Brian Rourkes as it was looking a bit tatty.

Nice bike elduderino, did Rourkes do a good job of the respray as I would consider having mine done at some stage in the future although I would like it to be the same colour as it is now.

I live in Wolstanton at the moment, not too far away from yourself and hoping to purchase a bungalow in Trentham in the very near future as soon as the paperwork is sorted.

Jerry good luck with the ride on Sunday to Dartmoor on your new trusty steed. How have you found the new bars and thumb shifters as I am having a bit of trouble getting used to dropped handlebars again after many years of riding mountain bikes etc.

Hi Videoman . The bars are a revelation . I broke my left arm a while back and been left with pins and plates inserted and no matter how i tried i just couldnt get on with drop bars so never seriously looked at road bikes but these are just great . And i cant believe how fast this bike is for a tourer , my average speed is up by 3mph . The Trek is now redundant .

Small world eh! I'm from Burslem. I can sometimes be seen frequenting Wolstanton Post Office (collecting their mail that is, I'm a Postie). Yeah Rourkes did a fantastic job, I had to have a new rear braze-on welded on as one had previously sheared off*. Jason ended up putting two new ones on welded with a diamond boss and they look much stronger than the old braze-ons. Paintwork looks tough as nails too, no runs etc and the decals are nice and smooth. Can't fault Jason's workmanship. The only negative thing I can say really is that it took a while. I took it in mid July and didn't get it back until a few weeks ago.

Trentham's nice, I've delivered around there a few times.

*with regards to the broken braze-on, I also had a quote from Bob Jackson Cycles and they told me the entire rear seat stay would need to be replaced. Rourkes said nonsense, it's a simple fix. So I highly recommend them.
