Providing there is no damage to the frame, and some of the components are salvageable (particularly the levers, brakes, and bar end shifters), then I'd say you've got a bargain.

Frame's worth a ton minimum, it's not even that old. Give it a good polish/oiling round the rusty bits and they should clean up nicely(I'd bet its only surface rust)

yep good price just have a good look around the grommets where the cable goes in and out of the top tube , either way the parts are worth more than £12 , nice XJ as well in the background

Frame looks in amazing nick, it's just dust, maybe a bit of a clean up where the gear cables enter the stem. Lovely. I guess that's an eighties colour, "Scouser shell suit"

I had a similar - if not the same - colour Dawes road bike in the late 70s, so that might be a clue to its age.

Value depends on how much it stands you in once restored to your taste.

Wheels, gear parts and the inevitable few other bits and pieces are sure to cost, I dunno, about three or four hundred.

Is that a fair price for a Galaxy of that age in good order?

Probably not far off.

I voted yes -at least I would think you could recoup that cost (assuming no frame integrity issues). I'm a bit worried about having a cable enter the top tube on the top side (looks a bit rusty), seems a daft place to put a cable entry (I mean, why not at the side or bottom so water doesn't get in rather than at the top where it is bound to happen?). However, the devil is in the details:

if you bought this with the intention of using it, then obviously looks like the wheels are missing! This means you'll have to buy some -and of course don't forget the tyres and inner tubes. And a rear freewheel or cassette. And based on the fact it looks like it may have been sitting idle for a time, probably a new chain. And potentially a new bb. Oh, and lets throw in the cost of new cables and housing too, I doubt if they are in decent nick. Another thing: the brake blocks possibly may need to be changed too -if they are Shimano, they really did a good job of putting out very abrasive hard bricks previously, not something you'd want on your new rims.....

Even if you assume you have all the tools and expertise required to fit and setup these components, the problem is that the total cost may well be getting close (or exceeding) the cost of spotting a used and much better condition complete bike for the same or less money. I'm a sucker for bikes though, so I know I would have bought it
