Not a rear light but.... have just walked back from Wimbledon, guy on the road coming toward me had a helmet mounted ultra bright light (as in suitable for off road MTB use). I had to stop walking till he passed as i simply could not see where i was going so bright was his light.

Slightly cheaper from P-X if you are ordering more stuff to get free postage. I think I got ours when they were under £10

I've had 3 of these Smart Lunar R2 and they have all failed, presumably due to water ingress. Never again...
They seem somwhat better at resisting H2O than the old superflash 1/2 W which tend to fail "on" and can only be extinguished by removing the batteries. Yet to have a problem with the R2 (touch wood)

Another approach is to mount them low. As rear lights are focussed into a beam, approaching vehicles should be within the diverged beam when a long way back, but above it when close enough to be dazzled.
Depends on the light, my rear light has 2x 3w LED's that pumps out over 200 lumens and each LED has a diffuser lens.

That was last years. This years are something else, but not quite a dinnote, but a fraction of the cost. I'll get a photo
I'll add that I don't use it on that setting when it's dark as it is too bright.

And yes, we do need an updated picture of yours!

On the way home tonight, I probably only saw a handful of folk with bright rear lights. Those were visible from some distance away. The rest had either poor batteries, pointing in bizarre directions, or just plane crap. Same goes for some front lights, completely drowned out by traffic.

You can get some nice and bright lights for not very much money, OK they might be a bit cheap, but they work. I have a few of the Planet X bikes Phaarts and they were £2.50. Got two on my MTB at the back ( the two led unit which is a copy of the RSP Astrum) and a few 3w front lights and a cat eye rear copy on my lads school bike.

Drivers seem to give me more room with a Lunar R2. Maybe they don't like having their eyes on the same axis as those twin 1/2 watt red emitters. I'm not going to apologise that someone who could wipe me out with a tonne or more of metal can see my light from several hundred metres back, and I won't be pointing mine downwards anytime soon.

The only problem is that the casing is not watertight, and it sometimes switches off mid-ride.

Usually they seem to. Sometimes if you pull it too tight it can depress the switch permanently on. You'll get the hang of it.
I use cling foil to make rear lights "water / splash proof". Works well.
