I often click on the photo albums and it's sad that often, it's from a "deleted member".

Some nice photos, but is it right to display photos of deleted members? They have decided to ride off, but did they want to leave behind all the memories contained in those photos.

If you post something on the internet it is there forever, people need to remember that. I’ve run into pictures I’ve posted on one forum on another or even on a general search on google for similar photos.

I guess that, should you decide to depart, a request can be put in to delete all your data, too.
If you just up & go, it's likely to still be accessible to whoever looks at it.

I posted loads of stuff on here when I was learning about recumbents (as an example). Often, when looking for fresh information I come across stuff on the internet which I posted years ago. I never realised that I'd been so prolific. I used to jokingly say that you become your own expert, but it seems that it's true. Some of the stuff seems a little embarrassing now, but a lot of it holds up, and I might have had more influence in encouraging (or even discouraging) potential recumbenteers trawling the internet for the often scarce info on recumbents than I realized. I'm sure that there are enthusiasts with a far wider range of knowledge than myself but they just posted less. I have to accept that my stuff will be out there long after I've left this forum or turned up my toes. Just have to consider that every tiny thing that you post will never ever go away!

I use an image hosting site - https://postimages.org/ - most images I post I put on a time limited so they will be deleted, I normally choose a year.

What does copyright ownership mean if you lose all control by publishing?

Good luck with that one.

Facebook & Twitter are widely decried as rogue outfits, but they allow you to delete everything if you want to, unlike most others.

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
Good luck with that one.
(getting your content deleted on request)

I think it does happen. You occasionally come across threads started by someone who has left and made such a request and the first post is empty. I think that is what has happened here:
