Derailleur cable hitting pedal

Snip the cable shorter, put a new end cap on and crimp it.

Thanks for the reply. So, I don't need to keep that much cable? It's not going to be needed as the bike gets old?

Leave atleast enough cable to grab on to with a pair of pliers, so if you ever take the cable out you should be able to easily thread it back through again.

Worst case scenario is you cut it too far, and have to get another cable inner - However they're only 2 or 3 quid, so you can't go too far wrong really.
 
no cutting or crimping required - just bend it up out of the way...the only tool you need is your thumb. If it returns, then you obviously aren't bending it enough to fold the cable...

I just use the fairly blunt cutting section on an old pair of pliers (to crimp the end cap). The other option of course is to secure the cable out of the way with a tie-wrap.

black'n'yellow's right, just bend it sharply with your thumb right where it comes out from the clamp bolt.
