Wind is only air, and rain is only water. All good training, and also stops any 'guilty' thoughts....

In my L/S baselayer, L/S jersey, waterproof, longs and overshoes I jumped on my bike this morning, rounded the first corner straight into a head wind and had to stop, the wind was so strong in my face I couldn't actually breathe. Once I'd steeled myself and set of again, with my buff pulled up over my nose and mouth it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd expected. The ferry portion of the trip was interesting though.

Strangely the sun was out and the water was like a millpond on the way home.

I'd drink a shandy to that, although it goes straight to my head then the toilet

No choice for me, I'm afraid! I ditched my "normal" car earlier this year so now I've only got my classic car, and I've taken the engine out of that!

Cold this morning, but I'm sticking with the baggy shorts for now.

I chicked out and took the car this morning too.
I managed to flood the headlight / short the electrics. I'm betting fixing this will be a little bit more complex than a new fuse!

I'm wishing I'd taken the bike!!

Today I saw this guy cycling along the Limoges road on a road bike obviously just out for a jolly. It was tipping down, really torrential stuff and blowing half a gale. Clearly a keen cyclist.

After reading that, thinking "damn right!" and resolving to go on a scenic detour on the way home, my toes are slowly regaining feeling and the burning is beginning to ease

I did wimp out of going out to Ladybower & Hathersage as the wind started to feel a bit murderous

Did enough to not feel guilty about not doing it though

My hands totally froze today - I wasn't ready for the conditions today - took me ages for my circulation to return properly ....

Following my principle of "try anything new in the worst possible conditions first so you know how bad it can get" I cycled in today in a new rain cape! Highlights were cresting Stamford Hill then almost stopping dead as the headwind hit and the cape turned into an airbrake, and cruising into the City with the cape billowing behind like Superman.

For added Super-powers I did indeed have my baggies on over my tights

Tell you what though, if you can cope with the air brake and the looking like a complete tit side of it, a cape is million times nicer than a waterproof jacket. Loads of dry airflow so very little sweatiness.

Quite agree - once you are wet you can't get any wetter- rain's never really bothered me. If it feels a bit parky- just speed up a tad. Shorts and T- shirt job as always for me today (less garb to get wet and quicker to dry). Fantastic ride both ways, rain lashing down, strong winds and coldest day yet, but boy was it fun whizzing through all that stationary traffic in gridlocked Cambridge!

Rode it today on the same MTB i did the big ride on Sunday seeing as my arse was used to that seat after the miles we did ! Was a bit un-pleasent but i still prfer to ride past lines of traffic in the rain and wind than be stuck wondering when the car in front was going to move

Ride home was brilliant with a nice tailwind.....lit up the speed camera at 28mph which is not too bad i though !!!

I do find that being totally wet is fine, but starting to get damp is not the best feeling.
